The world of writing

About Me

I’m a 30 year old Filipino residing in Cebu City, Philippines. I’ve been writing regularly not more than half a year and cannot call myself an experienced writer although I pretty much enjoy punching the keys as I write my thoughts down. For now, technically, writing may appear to be just a hobby, although I’m serious about it.I work as an operations manager in a hotel, a family business whom my father is the owner. Such work takes a lot of my time and mental energy since I multitask most of the administrative work: from auditing, payroll, human resources, quality control, etc. To relieve of my stress, I take breaks writing a few lines or just learn about the craft. In the weekends, I also teach piano to teens and children for extra income since the pay in my father’s business is not that much considering the colossal amount of loans we have to meet. Me, my father, and my brothers are still in the lean and painful years of the business. I’m married and have my small family to take care of, so I have to sacrifice my extra time instead of just goofing around.

I’m practically a musician before I have become hooked with writing. I have some recordings but I’m not motivated to finish them because I’m not contented with my words. In a way, I am in a hiatus with composing and diverting my focus on sharpening my lyrical skills through writing. It may not be directly related, I guess, but words are words for me. I don’t want to force myself to make a song or else my impatience is getting in the way of my music. I will just strangle the passion out of it.

I can also say I am an artist by heart but just going through the phases. To engage myself in creative work makes me happy but I have to make sure that it is also realistic. As of this period of my life, I’m focused on work, making music and stories and I don’t want to pursue any other artistic fields or I’ll end up as a jack of all trades but a master of none.

I’m also a health nut. I believe that a properly functioning body is important for any artistic endeavor because your body is the extension of your creative mind. Its hard to create when you are ill so I am also aware what goes into my mouth. I am a vegetarian, I also meditate and a running addict.

I have a lot in my list to keep myself together but it’s all worth it just to keep my art alive. Art is very special, not just for me but in the total reality because the love contained in a work of art keeps this chaotic world from destroying itself prematurely.
